St. Stephen’s Youth Programs, a Boston-based ministry of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, builds long-term relationships with young people and their families, starting as early as age five or six and continuing through young adulthood. Through after-school and summer programs for elementary and middle schoolers, the ministry combines academic support, social-emotional development, mentoring, and intentional Christian community-building—welcoming youth of all faith backgrounds, most of whom are unchurched. Staff, participants, and parents describe the program as a source of stability, belonging, and hope, with many alumni eventually returning as staff members themselves.
The video also traces the program’s growth following the murder of George Fuentes, a beloved community member and program graduate, which pushed St. Stephen’s to expand its work beyond its walls to address gun violence and reach young people who might otherwise be missed. United Thank Offering (UTO) grants are credited with helping fund key milestones in this expansion, including a technology center, and with strengthening the program’s connection to the wider Episcopal Church.
