Conciliar Bodies and Ecumenical Councils
In addition to building relationships with our full-communion and dialogue partners, The Episcopal Church also engages with many ecumenical councils, commissions, assemblies, and organizations. These groups promote peacebuilding and unity by sharing resources, building spaces for conciliar conversations, and facilitating collective action on national or global issues.

Conciliar Bodies
National Council of Churches (NCC)
Founded in 1950, this council is the leading force for ecumenical cooperation among Christians in the United States. Its Protestant, Anglican, and Orthodox member denominations—which include The Episcopal Church—include more than 50 million persons in 140,000 congregations across the nation.
World Council of Churches
This council is a worldwide fellowship of churches seeking unity, a common witness, and Christian service. The Episcopal Church is a founding member.
Ecumenical Organizations
Christian Churches Together
This fellowship of 36 national churches and organizations—including The Episcopal Church—represents more than 60 million American Christians.
Churches Uniting in Christ (CUIC)
In 2002, 11 Christian communions—including The Episcopal Church—pledged to live more closely together in expressing their unity in Christ and combating racism. Amid war, terrorism, disasters, economic collapse, political polarization, and increasing wealth disparity, these church bodies are deepening their relationships and extending their common life.
Consultation on Common Texts
This ecumenical consultation of liturgical scholars and denominational representatives from the U.S. and Canada—including from The Episcopal Church—produces texts common liturgical texts for common use in North America.
